Basic WordPress SEO

WordPress is a pretty well optimized system, and really does a superior job at allowing each and every web site to become found than some other CMS I’ve got utilized. Nevertheless there are several points it is best to do for making the item simpler however to work with.

Usually the WordPress themes are well designed and structured already but there are a number of things you really should do to improve it for better optimization for search engines.I thought it would be a good idea to split the “obvious” suggestions from the not-so-obvious and slightly more advanced tactics that I will share later in the post.

URLs
1)How to use permalink structure:
The first thing to change is your permalink structure. You’ll find the permalink settings under Settings → Permalinks. The default permalink is ?p=<postid>, but I prefer to use either /post-name/ or /category/post-name/. For the first option, you change the setting to /%postname%/:

How to use permalink structure

To include the category, you select “Custom Structure” and change the value to /%category%/%postname%/. If you previously had ?p=<postid> as your permalink WordPress will take care of all the redirects for you. This is also true if you change from /%postname%/ to /%category%/%postname%/. I would only really recommend this if you have a massive site built on WordPress, but it’s interesting to note.

It would be the best to do this on a fresh blog. But , If you want to make the changes on a new blog then make sure you have to install the redirection plugin. It will move your Old URL’s properly and in a search engine friendly manner. You should also remember to shorten the post slug when you are writing an article, as by default URL will use all of the words in your title.

2)WWW or Non WWW:
For wordpress blog you need to think that what you want your site to show up with www result or non www result. For example the website is given result like www. Example.com or simply example.com. IN wordpress first you have to make sure in your General settings, under Settings → General, the version you want to show up is properly reflected:

WWW or Non www

You will also want to set this correctly in Google webmaster Tools. First to set up your site with Google webmaster Tools and set the preferred domain, you can find this setting under Settings → Preferred domain:

Google Webmaster settings

3)Stop words :
The last you have to do is about your permalink to increase the your wordpress SEO, is remove so called stop words. The words are like “a”, “and”, “the” etc. There are some wordpress plugin also available that remove stop words from your slugs once you save a post. So, The result is you can not get those ugly and long URL when you do a sentence style post title.
This has been done when your post will not become live. Because if people have already linked it , try to not change the permalink anymore. And if you do then you have to be make sure the post is properly redirected. In most cases WordPress should redirect the OLD URL to the new one but if it does not you need to make the redirect manually.

Optimize Title for SEO
The content of your page describe the Title < title>tag, is known as a most important factors for ranking in the search results.
