SEO is Both Science and Art

It is easy for many people, who are not involved in the search engine optimization (SEO) on a regular basis, (or so they think). Just easily create a website, write some quality content, and then obtain links from as several sources as possible.

More often that not, the SEO is truly a unique practice. It is often poorly understood and it can be painfully difficult. Here for this reason.

SEO is Science

Science Definition:

1. A branch of information or learning of a body of facts is really systematically organized and viewing the procedure of common laws: the mathematical sciences.

2. Systematic and efficient knowledge of the physical world or material obtained through watching and experimentation.

3. Any of the branches of the natural or physical sciences.

4 systematize knowledge in general.

5 knowledge of facts or principles; knowledge gained by the systematic study.

Who has performed professional SEO services for any period of time will tell that at one point we definitely practiced each of the previous ones. In some cases, changes in our industry are so fast that we look for the science experiments among peers (through WebmasterWorld forums).

Unfortunately, Google does not provide step-by-step instructions to optimize every single Web site. Every Web site is unique. Each process optimization/project is unique.

Each website represents new optimization and interesting challenges. All require at least some experiments. Most SEOs follow strict test, control, and measurement methods so that we know what works and what does not.

We have a few guidelines along the way:

-> Our “division of knowledge” is correctly formed in what Google provides in its guidelines for webmasters and also SEO Starter Guide.

-> Our unique experience. Just as you could “learn” marketing to obtain Bachelor’s degree in marketing, actually you’re not very good until that has worked in the field and experience of the real world. There are so many things that can be read in the blogosphere about SEO are complete shit. But, if you do not know, better you buy it because “sounds reasonable, so it must be true!” Thus be careful to assert that something is 100% “true” unless there is enough “evidence” to back up the claim. Otherwise, is called “hypothesis”:

1. An assumption or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further research.

2. A statement made as a basis for reasoning, without any assumption of its truth.

SEO is also Art

Definition:

The use of aware of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects

I have worked with and befriended with many incredibly brilliant SEOs in my years in this business. It is those who manage to fuse the scientific knowledge with creative ideas on how to improve and experiment the programs are gems.

Get creative with SEO is thinking about how a marketing program may include social, design graphic, link PR, construction and generation of content to drive towards a common goal.

Get creative with SEO is also about design and code redesign a Web site to improve usability and accessibility, while maintaining the brand guidelines and maintain the requirements of “appearance”, still improve SEO.

Every day we must be creative to determine better how keywords meta determining method of content generation gives us the best chance to win a strong presence in the search engines and participation: the most important thing: our audience.

We should write a blog? Is this better handled in a press release? What such a video? Info graphics? The new “corporate” page on the site? There are multitudes of ways that we could determine a keyword through destination content.

The Perfect SEO

Today, SEO is much more involved than the last years SEO. When I hear people saying that you are trying to determine if you should hire an internal SEO or an agency, it will give you the pros and cons of each (and frankly there are pros and cons of each one).

But one of the factors that I think it leans towards the strength of an agency is that it will usually be a team of people, each with a unique ability. And these people can share examples of what works and what not, with others (scientific experiments are often occur), creative thoughts can bounce from one to another, and collectively provide more value that anyone could.

Our industry wants more of these greatly skilled “freaks of nature” that blends skills scientific and artistic creativity of SEO.
